After Warehouse: Songs and Stories came out in 1987, Hüsker Dü spent some time practicing and building songs in the Rossmor Building. A former shoe factory that takes up an entire city block, the Rossmor's empty spaces and lofts were home to artists, musicians, and the like in the late 80's. Grant Hart (drummer) was living here at the time. A few recordings have survived that period, but Hüsker Dü called it quits before releasing another album.
Today, the Rossmor is a collection of upscale condominiums- surprise!

In March of 1979, Hüsker Dü played their first public performance at Ron's Randolph Inn. Although there is no longer a 1217 building at this address, the 1219 building contains the one-story brick building that used to be Ron's.
As Bob Mould recalled:
"I am 99% certain it's the one story building next to the salon. The front windows you see were 'the back of the stage.' When one entered the front door, they were essentially to my immediate left (stage left). The stage was maybe 12 inches high, with a small wrought iron rail — think handrail for a stairway entrance to a suburban house — on stage left. Don't ask me how I remember all of this."

A record store that existed until the 90's, Northern Lights Records was located at the corner of 7th street and Hennepin Ave. The former location of the Music City record store, the site has since been renovated to become part of the Pantages Theatre.
In late 1979, Hüsker Dü recorded the Northern Lights Demos here with friend/co-worker Colin Mansfield. As Mansfield recalled:
"I was involved in recording most (probably all --it's a long time ago) of the recordings made in the basement of Northern Lights. Both Greg and I were working there (Greg in the record/head shop, and I was setting up Twin Cities Imports in the basement)."

At the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center on the Macalester College campus, Hüsker Dü recorded their earliest demo tracks.
Recorded in May of 1979, the demo is known as the Bill Bruce Demos and features the following tracks:

This unassuming ranch home was listed as the contact address on the Hüsker Dü albums Land Speed Record, Everything Falls Apart, and Metal Circus. Greg Norton (bassist) lived here with his mother, and the band would hang out and rehearse in the basement.
The location also served as contact address for Reflex Records, an independent label that Hüsker Dü formed with Terry Katzman after their initial single was rejected by Twin Tone Records in 1979.
