The Beatles played two sold out shows here on Feb. 12, 1964. They were the first rock band to play this venue.
There were rumors that the two 35-minute sets were recorded, but nothing has ever been found.

Both Phife and Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest grew up in St. Albans, Queens, New York near Linden Boulevard. Here they are performing on the rooftop of Nu-Clear Drive-In Cleaners in their video for Check the Rhime.
The Low End Theory is one of the top ten hip-hop albums of all time according to me and I'm a hip-hop scholar.

This was the location of Arturo Vega's loft- the guy who designed pretty much all the art that had to do with the Ramones.
This loft is also where Dee Dee and Joey lived in the early days of the band. Vega's coffee table is where the Ramones signed their first record contract. Dee Dee wrote "Chinese Rocks" while living here and sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
There is a 1975 bootleg of the Ramones recorded at this loft.
gaslight cafe

Opened in 1958, the Gaslight Cafe was a beat and folk music hangout in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The Gaslight (or "The Village Gaslight") was originally a "basket house" where unpaid performers would pass around a basket at the end of a performance to earn money.
Numerous musicians, poets and comedians made their way through the Gaslight. Bob Dylan recorded a performance "Live at The Gaslight 1962" that was released in 2005.
According to the Folk Music Encyclopedia: "The Gaslight was weird then because there were air shafts up to the apartments and the windows of the Gaslight would open into the air shafts, so when people would applaud, the neighbors would get disturbed and call the police. So then the audience couldn't applaud; they had to snap their fingers instead."
The Gaslight closed its doors in 1971.

On the eighth floor of Radio City Music Hall, there used to be (now defunct) a recording studio. This is where the Ramones recorded their first album in February of 1976. Put out by Sire Records, the Ramones self-titled debut was recorded in one week for $6,400. The producer was Craig Leon, and Tommy Ramone was listed as "associate producer."
